Speaking in Faces

client:

Virginia Arts of the Book Center

description:

We collaborated with the book artists at the VABC to produce Speaking in Faces, a massive type specimen book. The final publication included a primer on typography, twelve “artists' specimens,” and more than 300 cases of printed type.

After production of the letterpress, hand-bound books, we process high resolution scans, performed color corrections, and prepared a one-to-one size trade edition for educational purposes at the Book Center.

This artist specimen, one of our two, was particularly difficult. Rather than using photo-polymer, which letterpress printers can design on a computer to expedite printing, it is composed completely from lead type. Caslon Regular 10 point, set solid.
